The Legion is a global, all-volunteer organization formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts under a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work.
"With a growing number of people experiencing a reawakening of their Star Wars fandom, new generations are seeking ways to celebrate their passion for George Lucas's modern mythology. The 501st Legion brings these fans together, reinforcing the enduring longevity of the Star Wars saga.
Whilst he 501st was initially founded to unite costumers with a penchant for Star Wars villainy, one of our real-world missions is to bring good to our communities through volunteer charity work. The 501st is always looking for opportunities to brighten the lives of the less fortunate and to bring awareness to positive causes on both a local and global scale."
The UK Garrison was formed in 2000 and has gone on to become one of the foremost Star Wars costuming groups in the UK. They are a part of the constantly growing 501st Legion, itself the largest costuming organisation in the world.
"We are renowned for our high standard 'movie accurate' costumes, professionalism and dedication to fundraising for charity. Our goal to be the very best at what we do has been reached and surpassed enabling us to be present at the highest level of Star Wars related events and work with some of the biggest names in the Star Wars industry.
Over the last fifteen years we have attended several thousand events, helping to raise money for a considerable number of charities, bringing joy to many and smiles to countless faces.
The UKG is a not-for-profit organisation. We are not sponsored by, but are the preferred Star Wars Imperial costuming group of Lucasfilm."
