STAGE 5 – assembly: biceps and forearms

:: March 8th 2016 ::

Been offline for a week or two with other stuff, but now back on track this week with exciting deliveries and the start of bonding the arm armour.

Time to start bonding the arm armour panels together, and I will be using some of the off-cuts/scrap to fabricate additional joining strips for use inside the armour. Anovos only supplies enough strips for the outer joint, but for strength I will be bonding strips inside the armour too.

Tonight, the Biceps. All edges inside and out sanded provide a key, glue applied and strips attached and held in place with clamps and magnets. After a few hours, the inner strips are added, clamps and magnets replaced and the whole element left overnight to set fully.

Only now do you really appreciate these rare earth magnets. These are an absolute must for anyone attempting this build.

Next day, the Forearms. Similar process to the biceps in that all edges inside and out need to be sanded provide a key, glue applied and strips attached and held in place with clamps and magnets. Inner straps will be added again and the whole lot left overnight to set fully.

There was a little bit of additional trimming needed on these, in particular on the returns. I have what I call ‘decent man sized forearms’ so needed a bit more clearance, so out with the flat faced snips.

With these forearm pieces needing to sit to dry overnight, time to finish off this days work and set about sanding and fine trimming of the larger parts that are almost ready – this includes the ab/cod armour, back and kidney armour, butt piece, shoulder bells and the recently completed bicep armour.

All sanded outside and with the mask on. These are now ready for fitting and straps/snaps/Velcro to be applied.
